Assignment: Building Your Web 2.0 Toolbox

Day 1 Module 2: Creating Your Web Presence

Readings and Reflections

What do I Need: To expand my knowledge, by learning and sharing experiences with others from...wow... I guess, from everywhere! Tune my skills, and acknowledge my creative wisdom.

I sense this IT based environment will motivate me to explore. A learning journey - trekking and spelunking through the mass lands of the IT world. It will be fun! Learning new web etiquette, the ins and outs of Creative Commons. I suspect, I might perhaps be somewhat relieved from some of the trends and mores, of face-2-face rushed processes. The process of searching for meaning, while sometimes starved from lack of resources, and with an acedia-like mood of mediocrity. Needless to say, time to get out there and freshen up!

I need to give and take, seek and sort, list and archive resources. I feel the need to share, be brave by submiting some of my journal entries regarding my insights. I want to acknowledge others teachings and findings - I love giving credit when it's due.  I was fascinated with the Creative Commons (CC) concept, and the spirit of the CC copyright licenses. I need to collaborate, raise awareness and develop social networking and on-site programming - simultaneously, for the greater good. Oh... yeah... and I need to save the world...! ;-) Really though, consider what we are witness to in our Web 2.0 spaces, recent reports of the revolutionary networking movement - these tools of mass instruction... tools that evoke revolutionary intelligence - sometimes for the better good, sometimes not.

1. New Tools: Perhaps I should start with a disclaimer, "Not so new tools". I've been exploring this IT land for some time now.  Time to set up camp (I'm thinking of the little video Jordan shared with us, Wikispaces in Plain Language) - set my intentions, read the directions first, assemble, and soak in all this new knowledge. I should also add, I am learning how to use my Mac, somewhat burdened with my PC skills... again, it's slow going, but fun!

Networking:

Facebook - I have uploaded some pics, corresponded, edited my Friends list, and am reading up on some apps - a bit leery about trying them out. I still don't feel comfortable with people knowing my online activities.

Twitter - I added some Follows - but I definitely feel like a lurker.

Collaborating: Wikispaces - will check it out soon.

Sharing: Flickr - most likely will move my pics to Flickr. I posted some albums on FB but might like to just submit a link.

All for now.
